Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the LORD hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years. 2 Kings 8.1God called for a seven year famine. The Bible doesn't say why God did this.
But I guess God can starve people to death if he wants to, for any reason, or for no reason at all.
The Bible doesn't say how many God starved to death in the seven year famine, so I'll just guess 7000, 1000 per year.

Yessum sir, the Lawd chasteneth he whom he loves. If you was a parent with a rebellious child wouldn't you starve them into submission?
Marcus, what "rebellious child" you refer to? In this verse I see none.
Why a famine?
Simple, Yahweh was bored with warfare - too fast, not enough long drawn-out suffering.
Every deity needs a little diversion sometimes.

I was just throwing it out there. If all else fails apologists can use the excuse that Israel was rebellious in some way at the time to somehow justify Yahweh's disgusting acts.
All the Israelites look up and shout, "Save us!" God whispers, "No..."
"...because I'm having too much fun starvin' y'all."
