The Bible verse that dare not speak its name

Chris Trumbull of Casper, Wyoming has painted a sign on his fence with a verse from the Bible. Here's what it looks like.

This is a verse that believer's never quote -- not even Fred Phelps, Steven Anderson, or Doug Wilson. It's as though it had been removed from the Bible. But it hasn't.

Here is what it says:

If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. Leviticus 20:13

Mr. Trumbull's interpretation is a bit weak, though. Leviticus 20:13 doesn't say: "To be gay = death." It says, "Kill homosexuals."

And not even Chris Trumbull is willing to say that.

It's time for believers to remove the verse that they cannot say out loud -- or just throw the whole damn Bible away.

It's never gonna happen, chief.

I bring this up constantly to one woman whenever she rants about gays on her blog, and she always gives me some bullshit about how we no longer need to follow that rule because it only applied to the Hebrews, and after Jesus came yadda yadda yadda. I pointed out that even Fred Phelps, despicable being that he is, won't say that because he knows the police take a very dim view of murder.

I told her if she shoots a few gays and gets arrested for it, she can always claim 'religious persecution' because after all, her holy book told her she should, right? She doesn't seem very enthusiastic, though, preferring to rant about how 'lost' they are, and how one of her favorite co-respondents is an ex-lesbian.

I pointed out to her that her Bible says that she is not to preach to gays, nor try to lure them into the straight life (via “ex-gay” ministries and/or therapy). The Bible clearly says they are to kill them. But she can't admit to that, and never will, even though she declares that “God's Word stands forever.” Talk about cognitive dissonance...

Appearently (as reading your blog has lead me to believe) reading the bible without the Holy Spirit to guide you is very dangerous.

The bible does not say Kill homosexuals - it says they will surely be put to death. The word death is mentioned so many times in the bible with various different meanings.

A person who murders has the same size sin as a person who involves themselves in homosexual acts. No sin is bigger then another.

Re: Lev 20 : 13 - it's about their hearts become hardened/seared/desensitized to the sin - therefore have no awareness of what they are doing - without awareness there is no repentence - without repentence no Jesus - without Jesus no forgiveness - without forgiveness no salvation. Its a spiritual death.

God hates hate. God loves love.

I am a devout and proud christian. The book i read every day of my life and the church i attend once a week tells me that I must love my bretheren and i do. Straight or gay, or of any religion. I love because He loved me first.

I am not called to hate sinners - i am called to hate sin. If i were to hate sinners i would hate myself as i am a sinner also.

I am interested to see if you will post this as I have noticed so far all comments posted are in support of what you say and there haven't been any to disagree - if i am wrong in saying this - i apologise :)

If you read that whole chapter you'll see it also says not to cut your hair; get tattoos, eat pigs, shrimp, or craw-fish. You see if we quote that scripture we'ed be hypocrites. But just because we do do all the stuff doesn't mean we're sinning either. If one would study the Bible they would know that that is the old covenant and when we accept Jesus' sacrifice we begin living under the new covenant.

But there is a verse in Romans 1:26, which is new covenant, that says desiring the same sex is not natural and that it's wrong. That desire came as a result from sin. I honestly believe anyone can be gay they just have to choose not to look at the same-sex with that perversion, those who do are the ones with no self control and a perverted mind, which Can be healed.

Ers and any other Christian that reads this blog, know this. Your savior said that he came not to remove the law but to fulfill it. According to the words of Jesus himself, ALL the Old Testament laws are just as valid and are supposed to be followed. NO EXCEPTIONS other than the sin sacrifice laws which, if Jesus was the Messiah, were the ONLY laws made invalid and the Levi Priests laws.

You no longer have to kill a goat or a cow for forgiveness, but you still have to follow every single other law in the entire bible that isn't specifically for the Levi Priests.

If you disagree, then you are calling your Saviour a liar as I take this straight from the bible in the new testament. It is not my opinion.

But then again, people will see only what they wish to see and will call it my opinion. Just one thing, how can it be my opinion when Christ's own words were basically follow all the old laws and these new ones." You all love to quote the new laws, but never the old ones that we are still supposed to follow unless the suit your purpose. Then when we quote the ones that you ignore, we hear something along the lines of "that was the old covenant', "Jesus's sacrifice made it where we don't have to follow those anymore' or even 'those were for the Jewish people only'

That is why Atheists and other people laugh at you. I know that you are afraid of ending up in hell for doubting YHWH, but truth be told, take the first step and try to follow the laws as commanded in the Bible. Don't let your pastor, preacher, or friends put any spin on it. Just follow as it reads. Period. I did for a little while, then I realized the stupidity of it all. If you are unwilling to follow EVERY Single law other than the Sin Offering laws, then you too are going to burn beside me according to your own holy book and your Savior's own words.

Bravo, Michael. The cop-out answer Christians always throw out - "Old Testament doesn't apply!" - just doesn't wash when you take that passage into account.

And the Bible also says "For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church." But women speak in church anyways.

Ahh but didn't the Bible also say "For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church." If you are going to use a verse to the Bible use the whole Bible. With that being said I see no church's other than a "Church of God" following that rule
