Gobsmacked by the nasty bits of the Bible

The Reverend Geraint ap lorwert, rector of the St Peter ad Vincula Church in Pennal, Wales, began re-reading the Bible in Lent and was "gobsmacked" by the cruelty that he found within. So he cut out the "nasty bits" and displayed them on what he calls "the wall of shame."

He also included whatever good bits he could find, burning the remaining scraps as a testament to the "cruel and vile God" of the Bible, saying "the King James Bible should be praised for its language but not for the God it represents."

The result is sort of a condensed, artistic version of the SAB.

How is this man still a Reverend, then? If he belongs to the Church of England, well, that certainly explains a lot; they've produced such luminaries as Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens... ;-)

My confusion is how did he get to be a Rev. without having encountered all those nasty bits previously? Never too late to wake up, I suppose.
Wonder how his editing job compares with the Thomas Jefferson version of the Bible.

The Jefferson Bible only deals with the New Testament, and its emphasis is more on what's left after the supernatural and other odd bits are removed. This project, which I totally endorse, is meant to point out the evil parts of the Bible as a whole (most of them Old Testament because most of the Bible is).

There is no "Testament" wether Old or New in the Bible, only "Covenant".

Steve,

Not understand the Bible and disliking it have been common reasons for not believing in God's existence. But misunderstanding and personal opinions aren't really a good basis for deciding what is true.

If you sincerely believe that God does not exist, I challenge you to refute the following article offering proof of God's existence:

@ Rick Warden:
I looked at your link. This falls into the category "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit".

The bible has little to do with my not believing in the existence of a god (yours or any other). And it's not misunderstanding or personal opinion, either. It's the sheer lack of evidence. And there's pretty abundant evidence for the NON-existence of the christian god: it's called "suffering". I recommend you read Bart Ehrman's book, "God's Problem- how the bible fails to answer our most important question: why we suffer".

Now, since Matthew 7:7, Luke 11:9 and no doubt others you are familiar with certify this as possible, I challenge YOU to pray that I become a believer. All you have to do is ask. :-)

I forgot this link to a number of much more easy-to-understand reasons not to believe in the existence of god:

Like many faltering vicars in the COE, the good reverend is a mawlah.
