Happy Jesus-in-Hell Day!

When I was a believer, I was always puzzled by the phrase "He descended into hell" in the Apostles' Creed. It just seemed strange to me. What was a nice guy like Jesus doing in a place like that?

But I guess Jesus did some time in hell; it says so right in the Bible.
He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. Acts 2:31
Luckily he took some really cool pictures.

Here's a black and white photo of a very tall Jesus meeting Adam and Eve as they come out of their demon-mouth house.

And here's one, on Saturday night, after Jesus put on his transparent robe.

Jesus, in a hurry to meet the ladies of hell.

Another photo of Jesus hanging out with Adam and Eve.

The sermon from hell.

And here's Jesus Sunday morning before heading back to the tomb.

Thanks, Steve, and thanks, Zinnia, for bringing this to my attention. I'll be sure to remind everyone at my extended family easter lunch tomorrow. ;-)
If hell is good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me!

Heh... I just followed the link to Acts, and then to the question of whether Joseph was the father of Jesus, where I saw this:

Luke 1:31-35
And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring for a son, and shalt call his name Jesus .... Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be seeing I know not a man. And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee.

Sounds almost like a porn movie!

Pretty interesting depictions of hell. It seems that you will either be emaciated, or you will spend all of your time working out, like they do in prisons today. I mean, look at the gun show put on by that woman in the forefront of the last image!

There's a considerable amount on Jesus' visit to Hell in the Gospel of Nicodemus, a book that didn't make it into the Scriptures. I wrote a bit about it in this post.

I don't think Hallmark's going to make a card to mark the occasion :)

Interesting that Adam is depicted as older than Eve.
The transparent cloth is a compliment to Jesus, since only linen or silk woven with the thinnest thread would have any transparency.
Last image- gotta love the Italians, never letting religion get in the way of depicting strapping lasses.

Here's some added light to His time spent in hell:
"For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the Spirit, by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, wer saved through water (1 Pet 3:18-20).

Kudos on hitting on a scarcely talked about topic.

Although, to be fair, this is a contested doctrine and not universally held to. The word translated "hell" in Acts 2:31 comes from "Hades," which was considered by Jews to simply be "the grave."

This is how the NIV (and many others) translates it, and likely why many people are not aware of this belief held by some in the early church.

Interesting blog. I plan on checking it out regularly.

Read the parable of Lazarus & the rich, Matthew 8:12; Matthew 22:13; Matthew 25:30.
Matthew 16:18
And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it
Christianity is a very primitive cult. But if you are disappointed by Christianity, established by Jews, as they have done to Hindu, Hellenico-Romano cults & to Shiite sects' tree, who call them selfves "Muslim", Allah (God) exists.

Wow - just came across your blog. Very funny at the least. But I definitely have to disagree with many things you say. So much that I made my mirror blog to talk about your posts - dwindling in beliefs. So, you found it interesting that Jesus went to hell/hades/prison. Well, he hung around tax collectors. Doctors don't hang around non-sick people. It shows that Jesus has the ability to go anywhere and never be entrapped. As far as the question of the 8 souls freed by water. That was Noah, his three sons, and their wives. Happy Easter Steve. Let's find out if there is a God or no God.

Great! Got evidence?

Hi Steve - great question. I think I will try to answer that question first. That will be the first of 95 questions I will answer. The answer is very difficult and thus will take a while and a few pages to explain. When I have it completed - I will return. But part of the answer is - God will not be tested or show you absolute proof that He exists. If it was that easy then everyone would believe in God and there would be no free will. But if there wasn't God - then why has He created us to worship Him. A knife is used to cut a steak. You don't cut steak with a spoon. Man was designed or programmed to worship God. That is why there are and have always been more people who believe there is some type of God. I remember watching a tv show called who wants to be a millionaire. When they polled the audience and most of them chose the same answer - that answer was usually correct. The audience has chosen that there is a God. But I need to get my complete thoughts down to try to prove that God exists. I will admit - that is a very difficult question.

While you're busy making up evidence for the existence of god (be sure to get the right god... there are so many!), you should also be trying to come up with evidence for this statement of yours: "Man was designed or programmed to worship God." I can help you here. Read "Why We Believe in Gods- a concise guide to the science of faith" by Andy Thomson. It's a short, readable book which will explain a lot.
BTW, an entity with the power to create the universe who "designs" lesser beings to worship it would either be a high-grade narcissist or a pathetic case of terminal low self-esteem.

Hi Steve - I have not forgot about you. You want me to prove the existence of God. So - why should I bother with that burden? Satan asked the same question to Jesus. I say - let's make it fun. Giant arena - we debate in front of thousands - have them vote who won - and leave it at that. You win - no god - I win - God!!! You don't text me - I win - God!!! 757-754-1388.

The existence or non-existence of god (any god) is not a matter for a popular vote. For example, millions were wrong about Zeus. I'm not so sure about the Flying Spaghetti Monster, though.

How about first you present some evidence here? :-)

Here's another way you can establish the existence of god: pray sincerely for me to become a believer.

I can't ask this, for obvious reasons. Why would god, if he exists, listen to a request from an atheist? Well, if he were feeling extra loving on some random day, he might take pity on me, but I'm assuming he's not that loving.

But god *always* grants wishes when they come in the form of sincere prayers; it says so in Matthew:

7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
7:8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

And then Mark says:

11:23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Well, I have doubt in my heart, so I can't ask. But... *YOU*, being a true believer, can surely ask for me to be given belief. As I've demonstrated, it says so in the bible.

So when I find that my heart belongs to Jesus, we'll know that there *is* a god, and he answers prayers. However, if I *don't* find religion, it means one of two things: 1) there's no god (my personal favorite) or 2) my ability to resist god is stronger than god's efforts to convert me. That would be sad for an omnipotent being.

Well, get to it! I'm waiting for the rapture. ^_^

When your heart is already shut off, there is nothing a person can do to get you to believe. Making a prayer wouldn't do anything except make God create a scenario to get you to that point.

Read what Jesus wrote on his discourse at olivet. Simply let your yes be your yes & your no be your no, anything else does not come from the holy father but instead rather from the evil one.
