EJ&T - Paul's 40 commandments in Romans

In the Every Jot and Tittle project, I am listing all of the Bible's commandments from Genesis to Revelation, in accordance with Jesus's words in Matthew 5:18-19. I have no idea how many commandments I'll find, but Jewish tradition claims there are 613. See here for a list of those that I've found so far.

  1. Offer your body as a sacrifice to God.
  2. Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God. Romans 12:1

  3. Don't conform to the world.
  4. Be not conformed to this world. Romans 12:2

  5. Be transformed by renewing your mind.
  6. Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2

  7. Don't think too much of yourself.
  8. I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly. Romans 12:3

    Be not wise in your own conceits. Romans 12:16

  9. Don't be slothful.
  10. Not slothful in business. Romans 12:11

  11. Be fervent in spirit.

  13. Be patient in tribulation.

  15. Pray a lot.

    Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving. Colossians 4:2

    The end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. 1 Peter 4:7

  17. Give money to saints.
  18. Distributing to the necessity of saints. Romans 12:13

  19. Be hospitable.
  20. Given to hospitality. Romans 12:13

    Use hospitality one to another without grudging. 1 Peter 4:9

  21. Rejoice with those who are rejoicing.
  22. Rejoice with them that do rejoice. Romans 12:15

  23. Weep with those who are weeping.
  24. Weep with them that weep. Romans 12:15

  25. Agree with everyone about everything.
  26. Be of the same mind one toward another. Romans 12:16

    All speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 1 Corinthians 1:10

    Be of one mind. 2 Corinthians 13:11

    Stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel. Phillipians 1:27

    Be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Phillipians 2:2

    Do all things without ... disputings. Phillipians 2:14

    Be ye all of one mind. 1 Peter 3:8

  27. Hang out with the little people.
  28. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Romans 12:16

  29. Don't return evil for evil.
  30. Recompense to no man evil for evil. Romans 12:17

    See that none render evil for evil unto any man. 1 Thessalonians 5:15

    Not rendering evil for evil, , or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing. 1 Peter 3:9

  31. Be honest in your dealings with others.
  32. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. Romans 12:17

    Let us walk honestly. Romans 13:13

  33. Try to live peaceably with everyone.
  34. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Romans 12:18

    Live in peace. 2 Corinthians 13:11

  35. Don't take revenge. Let God do it for you.
  36. Avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Romans 12:19

  37. Overcome evil with good.
  38. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21

  39. Submit to the authority of the government.
  40. Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. Romans 13:1-2

    Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates. Titus 3:1

    Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you. Hebrews 13:17

    Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. 2 Peter 2:13-14

  41. Pay your taxes.
  42. Pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. Romans 13:6-7

    Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? But Jesus... said, ... Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. Matthew 22:17-21

    Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, ... said ... bring me a penny, that I may see it. And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's. And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. Mark 12:14-17

    Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no? But he ... said ... Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar's. And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's. Luke 20:22-25

  43. Don't owe anyone anything.
  44. Owe no man any thing. Romans 13:8

  45. Don't participate in riots.
  46. Let us walk ... not in rioting. Romans 13:13

  47. Don't walk in drunkenness.

  49. Don't be sexually promiscuous.

  51. Don't envy.

    Let us not be ... envying one another. Galatians 5:26

  53. Put on Jesus.
  54. Put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, Romans 13:14

  55. Don't try to satisfy your lusts.
  56. Make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. Romans 13:14

    Flee also youthful lusts. 2 Timothy 2:22

    Abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul. 1 Peter 2:11

  57. Accept people with weak faith.
  58. Him that is weak in the faith receive ye. Romans 14:1

  59. Don't associate with arguing doubters.
  60. Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. Romans 14:1

  61. Don't judge those with different dietary preferences.
  62. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth Romans 14:3

  63. Be fully persuaded in your own mind.
  64. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. Romans 14:5

  65. Don't cause anyone to stumble.
  66. No man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way. Romans 14:13

    It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak. Romans 14:21

  67. Don't destroy a vegetarian by serving meat.
  68. If thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died. Let not then your good be evil spoken of: For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink. Romans 14:15-17

  69. Edify one another.
  70. Let us therefore follow after the things ... wherewith one may edify another. Romans 14:19

    Let all things be done unto edifying. 1 Corinthians 14:26

  71. If you wonder if it's OK to eat something, don't eat it.

  74. We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Romans 15:1

  75. Please your neighbor.
  76. Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. Romans 15:2

  77. Receive one another.
  78. Receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God. Romans 15:7

  79. Mark and avoid those that disagree with Paul.
  80. Mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.Romans 16:17-18
