EJ&T: Leviticus 19: Honor the face of an old man (and love your neighbor as yourself)

In the Every Jot and Tittle project, I am listing all of the Bible's commandments from Genesis to Revelation, in accordance with Jesus's words in Matthew 5:18-19. I have no idea how many commandments I'll find, but Jewish tradition claims there are 613. See here for a list of those that I've found so far.

  1. Fear your mother and father.
  2. Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father. Leviticus 19:3

  3. It is an abomination to eat a peace offering on the third day after the animal is sacrificed. If you do so, you will be exiled.
  4. If ye offer a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the LORD ... if it be eaten at all on the third day, it is abominable ... that soul shall be cut off from among his people. Leviticus 19:5-8

  5. Leave the corners of your field and some of your grapes in your vineyard unharvested for poor people and strangers to eat.
  6. When ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest. And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger. Leviticus 19:9-10

    And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not make clean riddance of the corners of thy field when thou reapest, neither shalt thou gather any gleaning of thy harvest: thou shalt leave them unto the poor, and to the stranger: I am the LORD your God. Leviticus 23:22

  7. Don't swear falsely in God's name.
  8. Ye shall not swear by my name falsely. Leviticus 19:12a

  9. Don't profane God's name.
  10. Neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God. Leviticus 19:12b
    Neither shall ye profane my holy name. Leviticus 22:32

  11. Pay your workers at the end of each working day.
  12. The wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning. Leviticus 19:13

    At his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it. Deuteronomy 24:15

  13. Don't curse deaf people.
  14. Thou shalt not curse the deaf. Leviticus 19:14a

  15. Don't cause a blind person to stumble.
  16. Nor put a stumblingblock before the blind. Leviticus 19:14b

    Cursed be he that maketh the blind to wander out of the way. And all the people shall say, Amen. Deuteronomy 27:18

  19. Judge others fairly, rich and poor, weak and powerful, Israelite and stranger.

  21. Don't gossip.
  22. Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people. Leviticus 19:16a

    Discover not a secret to another. Proverbs 25:9

  23. Don't endanger the life of your neighbor.
  24. Neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour. Leviticus 19:16b

  25. Don't hate your brother.
  26. Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart. Leviticus 19:17a

  27. Rebuke your neighbor, so that you won't share the blame for his or her sin.
  28. Thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him. Leviticus 19:17b

  29. Don't seek revenge or bear a grudge.
  30. Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people. Leviticus 19:18b

    Say not thou, I will recompense evi. Proverbs 20:22

    Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work. Proverbs 28:29

  31. Love your neighbor as yourself.
  32. Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Leviticus 19:18, Matthew 22:39, Mark 12:31, Romans 13:9

    Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them. Deuteronomy 29:9

    it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail. Luke 16:17-19

    The doers of the law shall be justified. Romans 2:13

  35. Don't crossbreed your animals.
  36. Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse kind. Leviticus 19:19b

  37. Don't plant crops with mixed seed.
  38. Thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed. Leviticus 19:19c

  39. Don't weave a garment from different fibers.
  40. Neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee. Leviticus 19:19d

  41. If a man has sex with another man's concubine, scourge the concubine and kill a goat for the man's trespass offering.
  42. Whosoever lieth carnally with a woman, that is a bondmaid, betrothed to an husband, and not at all redeemed, nor freedom given her; she shall be scourged; they shall not be put to death, because she was not free. And he shall bring his trespass offering unto the LORD, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, even a ram for a trespass offering. And the priest shall make an atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering before the LORD for his sin which he hath done: and the sin which he hath done shall be forgiven him. Leviticus 19:20-22

  43. Don't eat fruit from a tree for the first three years of its life. Consider the fruit uncircumcised.
  44. And when ye shall come into the land, and shall have planted all manner of trees for food, then ye shall count the fruit thereof as uncircumcised: three years shall it be as uncircumcised unto you: it shall not be eaten of. Leviticus 19:23

  45. The fruit that a tree produces during its fourth year is holy and must be offered to God.
  46. In the fourth year all the fruit thereof shall be holy to praise the LORD withal. Leviticus 19:24

  47. Eat fruit that a tree produces during its fifth year.
  48. In the fifth year shall ye eat of the fruit thereof. Leviticus 19:25

  49. Don't cast spells or engage in fortune-telling.
  50. Neither shall ye use enchantment, nor observe times. Leviticus 19:26

  51. Don't round the corners of your head.
  52. Ye shall not round the corners of your heads. Leviticus 19:27a

  53. Don't ruin the corners of your beard.
  54. Neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard. Leviticus 19:27b

  55. Don't cut your skin for dead people.
  56. Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead. Leviticus 19:28a

    Ye shall not cut yourselves ... for the dead. Deuteronomy 14:1

  57. Don't have any tattoos on your body.
  58. Ye shall not ... print any marks upon you. Leviticus 19:28b

  59. Don't force your daughter to become a prostitute.
  60. Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore. Leviticus 19:29

  61. Revere God's sanctuary.
  62. Reverence my sanctuary. Leviticus 19:30, 26:2

  63. Don't consult wizards or people with familiar spirits.
  64. Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them Leviticus 19:31
    And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people. Leviticus 20:6

    Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit. 1 Chronicles 10:13

    Manasseh ... did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD. ... For he ... dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards. 2 Chronicles 22:1-6

  65. Stand up in the presence of old people.
  66. Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head. Leviticus 19:32a

  67. Honor the face of an old man.
  68. Honour the face of the old man. Leviticus 19:32b

  69. Don't vex strangers.
  70. If a stranger sojourn with thee in your land, ye shall not vex him. Leviticus 19:33

  71. Love the stranger as yourself.
  72. But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt Leviticus 19:34

    Love ye therefore the stranger. Deuteronomy 10:19

  73. Treat others fairly; don't cheat.
  74. Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure. Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have. Leviticus 19:35-36

    Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small. Thou shalt not have in thine house divers measures, a great and a small. But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Deuteronomy 25:13-15
