EJ&T Proverbs 1-5: Stay away from strange women and be satisfied with your wife's breasts

In the Every Jot and Tittle project, I am listing all of the Bible's commandments from Genesis to Revelation, in accordance with Jesus's words in Matthew 5:18-19. I have no idea how many commandments I'll find, but Jewish tradition claims there are 613. See here for a list of those that I've found so far.

  1. Be merciful.
  2. Let not mercy ... forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart. Proverbs 3:3

    Shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother. Zecharaiah 7:9

    Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies. Colossians 3:12

  3. Don't trust your own understanding.

  11. Don't be afraid of sudden fear.

  15. In so far as you are able, help those who deserve to be helped.

  17. Don't tell your neighbor, I'll help you tomorrow if you have the means to help them today.

  31. Look straight ahead.
  32. Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. Proverbs 4:25

  33. Watch your step.
  34. Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Proverbs 4:26

    Remove thy foot from evil. Proverbs 4:27

  35. Make no right or left turns.
  36. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left. Proverbs 4:27

  37. If you step in something evil, remove your foot.

  39. Stay away from strange women.
  40. For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell. Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them. ... Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house. Proverbs 5:3-8

    Why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? Proverbs 5:20

    Keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids. For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life. Proverbs 6:24-26

    Keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words. Proverbs 7:5

    Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths. For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her. Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death. Proverbs 7:25-27

  41. Drink from your own well.
  42. Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well. Proverbs 5:15

  43. Let your fountains run into the streets.
  44. Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets. Proverbs 5:16

  45. Don't share your fountains with strangers.
  46. Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee. Proverbs 5:17

  47. Let your fountain be blessed.
  48. Let thy fountain be blessed. Proverbs 5:18

  49. Rejoice with your wife.
  50. Rejoice with the wife of thy youth. Proverbs 5:18

    Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest. Ecclesiastes 9:9

  51. Be satisfied with your wife's breasts.
  52. Let her [your wife] be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love. Proverbs 5:19
