EJ&T Colossians: Slaves, obey your masters; don't be spoiled with philosophy; read the epistle from Laodicea

In the Every Jot and Tittle project, I am listing all of the Bible's commandments from Genesis to Revelation, in accordance with Jesus's words in Matthew 5:18-19. Don't let anyone spoil you with philosophy.

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. Colossians 2:8

Don't bother with Sabbaths or holy days.

Let no man therefore judge you ... in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Colossians 2:16

Don't think you'll be rewarded for voluntary humility.

Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, Colossians 2:18

Don't worship angels.

Don't believe in things you haven't seen.

Seek things that are above, not on things on the earth.

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:1-2

Mortify your members.

Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth. Colossians 3:5

Don't be unclean.

...uncleanness ...For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience. Colossians 3:5-6

God hath not called us unto uncleanness. 1 Thessalonians 4:7

Don't be inordinately affectionate.

Don't have evil concupiscence.

Don't be wrathful.

Put off all these ... wrath.... Colossians 3:8

Don't blaspheme.

Don't let any filthy communication come out of your mouth.

Be humble.

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved ... humbleness of mind. Colossians 3:12

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. James 4:10

Be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. 1 Peter 5:5-6

Be meek.

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved ... meekness. Colossians 3:12

Follow after ... meekness. 1 Timothy 6:11

Shewing all meekness unto all men. Titus 3:2

Be long-suffering.

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved ... longsuffering. Colossians 3:12

Forbear one another.

Forbearing one another. Colossians 3:13

Let the peace of God rule your heart.

Let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body. Colossians 3:15

Let the word of Christ dwell in you.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom. Colossians 3:16

Teach one another.

Teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. Colossians 3:16

Be ... apt to teach. 2 Timothy 2:24

Speak thou the things which become sound doctrine. Titus 2:1

Do everything in the name of Jesus.

Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus. Colossians 3:17

Children, obey your parents.

Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Colossians 3:20

Fathers, don't make your children angry.

Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. Colossians 3:21

Slaves, obey your masters.

Servants [slaves], obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God Colossians 3:22

Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. 1 Peter 2:18

Whatever you do, do it heartily.

Whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Colossians 3:23

Masters, give your slaves what is just and equal.

Masters, give unto your servants [slaves] that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven. Colossians 4:1

Exhort servants [slaves] to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again; Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things. Titus 2:9-10

Walk in wisdom toward nonbelievers.

Walk in wisdom toward them that are without. Colossians 4:5

Know how to answer everyone.

Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. Colossians 4:6
