EJ&T - Ephesians : Wives, treat your husband like Jesus; husbands, love your wife like your own body

In the Every Jot and Tittle project, I am listing all of the Bible's commandments from Genesis to Revelation, in accordance with Jesus's words in Matthew 5:18-19. I have no idea how many commandments I'll find, but Jewish tradition claims there are 613. See here for a list of those that I've found so far.

  1. Don't be tossed like a child by every wind of doctrine.

    2. Be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine. Ephesians 4:14

  2. Put off the old lustful man and put on the new righteous man.

    3. Put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind. And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24

  3. Be angry.

  4. But don't let the sun go down on your wrath.

    5. Let not the sun go down upon your wrath. Ephesians 4:26

    Let all ... wrath, and anger ... be put away from you. Ephesians 4:31

  5. Don't give place to the devil.

    6. Neither give place to the devil. Ephesians 4:27

  6. Stop stealing; work so you can help those in need.

    7. Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. Ephesians 4:28

  7. Don't say anything corrupt; say good things instead.

    8. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. Ephesians 4:29

  8. Don't make God's Holy Spirit sad.

    9. Grieve not the holy Spirit of God. Ephesians 4:30

  9. Don't be bitter.

    10. Let all bitterness ... be put away from you. Ephesians 4:31

  10. Don't be clamorous and evil speaking.

    11. Let all ... and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you. Ephesians 4:31

  11. Have malice toward none.

    12. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice. Ephesians 4:31

    Put off all these ... malice.... Colossians 3:8

  12. Be kind to one another.

    13. Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted. Ephesians 4:32

    Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved ... kindness. Collosians 3:12

  13. Follow God like a dear child.

    14. Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children. Ephesians 5:1

  14. Walk in love.

    15. Walk in love. Ephesians 5:2

    Follow after ... love. 1 Timothy 6:11

  15. Be clean.

    16. But ... all uncleanness ... let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints. Neither filthiness. Ephesians 5:3-4

  16. Don't talk foolishly.

    17. Neither ... foolish talking. Ephesians 5:4

  17. Don't joke.

    18. Neither ... jesting. Ephesians 5:4

  18. Give thanks.

    19. Neither ... but rather giving of thanks. Ephesians 5:4

    Be ye thankful. Colossians 3:15

    In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

    I exhort therefore, that ... and giving of thanks. 1 Timothy 2:1

  19. Don't hang out with the children of disobedience.

    20. (e.g., whoremongers, unclean, covetous idolaters)
    For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them. Ephesians 5:7

  20. Walk as children of light.

    21. Walk as children of light. Ephesians 5:8

  21. Prove what is acceptable to the Lord.

    22. Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. Ephesians 5:10

  22. Don't have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness.

    23. Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness. Ephesians 5:11

  23. Reprove the unfruitful works of darkness.

    24. Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. Ephesians 5:11

  24. Don't talk about the secret things done by the unfruitful works of darkness.

    25. Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. Ephesians 5:11-12

  25. Wake up.

    26. Awake thou that sleepest ... and Christ shall give thee light. Ephesians 5:14

  26. Arise from the dead.

    27. Arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. Ephesians 5:14

  27. Walk circumspectly.

    28. Walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise Ephesians 5:15

  28. Redeem the time.

    29. (Because the days are evil.)
    Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:16

    Redeeming the time. Colossians 4:5

  29. Don't get drunk with wine.

    30. Be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess. Ephesians 5:18

  30. Be filled with the Spirit.

    31. Be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:18

  31. Talk to yourselves using psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.

    32. Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. Ephesians 5:19

  32. Submit yourselves to one another.

    33. Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Ephesians 5:21

  33. Wives, obey your husbands (as though they were Jesus).

    34. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. Ephesians 5:22

    As the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Ephesians 5:24

    Let ... the wife see that she reverence her husband. Ephesians 5:33

    Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. Colossians 3:18

    Ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands. 1 Peter 3:1

  34. Husbands, love your wife (like you love your own body).

    35. Husbands, love your wives. Ephesians 5:25

    So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. Ephesians 5:28

    Let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself. Ephesians 5:33

    Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. Colossians 3:19
